President vs Ginny: Battle for Bucks County

PA-08 has been getting national attention for the the NRCC "Hezbollah" mailer. In fact, Atrios and Chris Bowers we just talking about it on the Majority Report. We all knew that Ginny Schrader's 8th CD was a Kerry must-win, but it appears to now be one of the most fought-after congressional districts in the nation. From Zwire:

Not to be outdone, this week the county's GOP will gets its turn as President George W. Bush visits Bucks County during a campaign rally scheduled for Thursday at Meadowbrook Farm in Lower Makefield. The President is expected to deliver remarks on Wednesday at a Victory 2004 Rally in Lancaster followed on Thursday with the rally in Bucks County.

"Bucks County is enormously important for the President's re-election," said Mark Pfeifle, spokesperson for the Republican National Committee in Pennsylvania. "That's one of the reasons why it was chosen for a presidential trip so close to Election Day. The President wants one more opportunity to rally the troops and inspire the grassroots supporters to go out and knock on a few more doors and do their part to lend to the President's victory in Pennsylvania."

In the last 24 hours, the netroots have raised enough money for another 10,000 Bucks County voters to get Ginny's last piece of mail.  We need to finish strong in the 8th CD.

Please make one final donation to Ginny.

It's one open seat out of 435. (5.00 / 2)

Really -- what kind of difference could one House seat make to the GOP?  I have to believe that the NRCC is targeting this district in order to smackdown and discourage liberal bloggers.  If they can keep "our" candidate from winning in 2004, I'm sure they're counting on us not to dig our pockets as deeply for candidates in 2006.

Here's my response to that:

I pledge now to contribute to the winner of the 2006 Democratic Primary in PA-08 (who I believe will be the incumbent Ginny Schrader!) at least the same amount that I have contributed to Schrader this year.

Buck County volunteering (none / 0)

My wife and I (and the kids) are going to Bucks County for GOTV Nov 2.  I checked with ACT and MoveOn and both seemed to have a fairly thin presence.  Schrader's campaign said all their GOTV was coordinated with the party, so we signed up with them.

What are other people doing in Bucks County?

The D party HQ in Doylestown is 215-348-4503.

The staging area they sent us to is 252 Swap Road #7.  They will be staging from there from 6am - 8pm.

Typing too fast ... that's Bucks County of course, and the staging area is Swamp Road.

Well (none / 0)

I'm in PA 13, and my first (local) priority is Allyson Schwartz winning, but Ginny Schrader and Lois Murphy are worth supporting as well.

Republican Effort in Bucks County (none / 0)

Coincidentally Bucks County was featured on BBC Radio 4 this morning (here in England) and I heard the following heartening telephone conversation

"........and I was wondering if you need any assistance in getting to the vote"
"No we dont need any assistance and there's no way we're voting for Bush"
"Oh really, may I ask why not?"

Wonderful. Now that republican activitst broke the golden rule of GOTV phone work - when you meet a dyed in the wool opponenet, hang up and move on to the next voter.  If other repubs are doing the same as this gentleman their phones should be nicely tied up and clocking up some lovely wasted hours.  Be encouraged Bucks County Dems!!  Help is on the way in the form of republican canvassers!

Well I have to admit (none / 0)

it is tempting to argue with the Pubs. But, that's not what you're supposed to do.
